Overview: “Bountiful Fixes”

To end our 2024 Software as a Service (SaaS) release schedule on a full and plentiful note, the Equidox team has released its 4th quarter bug fixes a few weeks early!  Enjoy nearly two dozen resolved issues, new documentation including a demo video, as well as feature improvements in the List Detector and Table Editor.

New Features

Help Menu

The Equidox NewUI now includes a simplified 10 minute training video.  It’s complete with closed captions and it’s embedded directly in the app!  If you have questions about tables or lists, or a variety of other subjects, let our very own Dan Tuleta walk you through those portions of the app.

Enhancements

OCR All Cells

The NewUI Table Editor now includes a streamlined OCR All Cells workflow.  After setting up your cell layout, use the OCR All Cells to quickly convert each cell to editable text.  

Tip:  Set your cell layout, including any spans, prior to using the OCR All Cells functionality.

Reminder:  Use this feature when your table is an image in a scanned document.

A progress bar will keep you informed of your table’s cell conversion progress.

Actual Text Prepopulation

At Equidox we have users that prefer Actual Text when there is already underlying PDF content.  Actual text gives the screen reader additional context while keeping the exported PDF content neat and tidy.  If you’re a user that relies on Actual Text, this should make your remediation faster by pre-poluating any PDF detected text in a table cell.

Resolved Issues

The following issues have been identified and solved.  Please contact our Support team with any questions or if you still experience any of the following issues.

Missing Support & Help Bubble

Some users using non Chromium based browsers were unable to access the Support & Help bubble.

List Detector

When using Sensitivity 1 in the List Detector, some users had to click the slider multiple times to initiate the Equidox List detection.

List Item Deselection

When double-clicking into List Items, some users would be ‘locked,’ into that List Item.  Other users experienced an inability to select other zones on the page.  Both these cases have been solved.

List Zone Deselection

When double-clicking into List Items, some users would see erroneous list property values, like the ‘Show Labels,’ checkbox on zones where those properties were inappropriate, like on a table or text zone.

List Item Custom Source

List item custom zone source failed to prepopulate detected underlying PDF source content.  This still exists on Sensitivity 1 and is currently being addressed.

List Item Actual Source

List item actual zone source failed to prepopulate detected underlying PDF source content.  This still exists on Sensitivity 1 and is currently being addressed.

OCR Detection

When changing between sources (PDF Source, Custom, Actual) on a zone that was currently detecting OCR, OCR would finish processing but would not update the OCR source field.

Filenames with Special Characters

When trying to download original files that contained special characters such as accented letters, the user would receive a file not found error message.

Profile Default Export Location

In the NewUI, even if the user had HTML set as their default desired export, the Export tab would route them to PDF on their first load.

Custom Cell Source in Table Editor

In the table editor, when a user selected ‘custom cell source,’ that data was reset outside the table editor, only when a separate zone on the page editor was interacted with, prior to saving the page.

Shading and Layering on Graphics

Going forward:  New imports will have better adherence to shaded or layered content created in modern design applications.  This does not affect previously imported documents.  Any users experiencing shading issues are advised to reimport their document and to contact Support which will assist with moving completed zones.  This zone assistance will be in place only for documents imported prior to release 7-6-001.

Languages on the Document Details Page

The full document language attribute was not being properly identified during export.  Zone level language changes experienced no issues.

Dark Mode

The Stats page and Document Details pages now better reflect content in Dark Mode.  Additionally, dark mode is now remembered across visits.

Image tab

Image alt text is better synced between the Image Tab, the Page Editor image alt text, and the reading order.

If you’re experiencing sync issues between Images; please contact support through the Support & Help bubble so we can identify any abnormalities in the document’s original tag structure.

Repeated Spaces

Repeated spaces in the original PDF file name caused a server error on export.  The document would export as intended however an error message was still displayed.

Page Editor Shortcuts

The first attempted use of a shortcut key would cause a hidden console error.  Creating a new zone would solve this console error and refresh the ability to use shortcuts.
